Connecting to the world through the written word

Sarah from Brazil

EF Academy New York

For 17 year old EF Academy alumna Sarah from Brazil, writing started out as a refuge – a safe space where she could connect with her emotions – and ended up becoming her way of connecting to the world. Last year she published her first novel and fulfilled her goal of becoming an author. The key message of Sarah’s book is that life is full of infinite possibilities worth exploring. During the writing process, Sarah learned a lot about perseverance, determination and herself.

Have you always enjoyed writing?

Ever since I was a child and I learned how to write, writing has been my safe space. It's where I go when I need to be honest with myself, the only place where I can talk about the good and the bad and just be truly myself.

Could you tell us a little bit about your book?

The name of my book is As infinitas vidas de Dylan Reynolds, which translates to The Infinite Lives of Dylan Reynolds. The novel tells the story of a boy named Ryan, and his best friend Dylan. Dylan dies by suicide, and the story begins when Ryan goes to one of his therapy sessions and tells his therapist what he thinks could have happened if Dylan hadn't lost his battle to depression.

"It's worth to stay even when things get hard"

What is the key message of the book?

The book is about having second chances in life, and how it's worth to stay even when things get hard.

I invite you all to read the book and I hope that you find yourself within the pages just as I found myself.
